Still trotting Along

Someone made a metaphor that I was getting back on the horse and I may be taking it to far.

I went back to my usual route of writing about health and I kind of went into a House mode. In chapter 12 and 13 I created a bunch of symptoms for Juliana but I didn't really think of what they meant. Originally she was going to be pregnant then she was going to have Stockholm Syndrome and then it was going to be drugs but I realized I wanted how she was acting to be the result of a medical issue and not something that was her own fault. I couldn't get to my usual medical contacts so, I Webmd'd, my way to any condition that can cause personality changes. When I needed to pick which infection gave her encephilatis, herpes was the only one that could fit. I had no intentions of giving her an STD but, I suppose it does happen.

I will also throw out there (not that I take sides with characters) that she most likely got it from being a prostitute and not from working in the actual club so, it really isn't Sid's fault. As a matter of fact I don't think Sid knew what she was doing.

Someone asked my inspiration for Cortland and to be honest there wasn't one because up until the beach scene Cortland was just a 21-year-old background character who asked one question in the car. I originally was going to have Patrick take her to the beach but, as soon as I began writing the scene I realized it wouldn't work out because, I don't think Juliana would ever trust Patrick and it just seemed off , what with her relationship to his father. So, instead of making anew character I gave Cortland a bigger role at the dinner scene and let him take Patrick's place. Then when I read Linda's work I was going to take the beach scene out and take the concept of Juliana having someone do something nice for her and tweak it. For a few minutes Cortland was an orderly at the hospital but, it just didn't stick. In the end I defaulted back to what I had written (I have dates to prove I wrote it before she posted, lol) because there is no way you can have a story in Miami without talking about the beach !
Cortland is inspired by that look of old-time young movie stars , I would say he is most based on the fRebel Without A Cause James Dean was an inspiration.

For all you non-nostalgics , who have no idea who I am talking about, I do find that Robert Pattinson can pull off the look to. It's all in the cheekbones. Odd . . . now I find Robert Pattinson attractive in a strictly platonic way. . .

(the man on the far right is Marlon Brando, couldn't crop him out the pic)

Also that little football themed weekend tidbit was inspired by a true story

I have a lot more "behind-the-page" if you will but, I will spread it out over the chapters.

I did throw together a playlist, I like the songs but, they all may not be perfectly in tune with the story just, in general.

Okay now on to Chapter 15

Playlist :

12.1-- Stop and Stare One Republic
12.2 -- Where the Stars Go Blue (OTH version, guess who suggested it ?)
12.3 Beautiful Mess Jason Mraz(I heard this song because it goes off on JB's blackberry whenever his significant other calls)

Get a playlist! Standalone player Get Ringtones!

  1. I don't need dates to believe you Shawna, LOL. This chapter was a little short but I enjoyed Sawyer's realization that he was a bad guy. I'm stealing on of these songs !

  2. Great to see you riding with the wild horses (get it ? IDK). This chapter was cute but I really liked Sawyer's section at the bottom.

  3. OMG Sawyer ! You should be using Google Maps !

I can see Cortland as a love interest for Juliana I hope we get to learn more about him.

  4. You have the portrayal of a college aged guys living situation down to a T. I think it shows how Juliana is adjusting the way she texts Cortland and goes shopping. Can't wait to see what happens next.

  5. I love you Ahawna, you made WebMD into a verb.

  6. Once again I feel torn with Sawyer. I mean he has been given the "burden" of taking care of Juliana and even though he doesn't agree with her parents he is still trying to uphold his part of the deal, everything he did was for her but really for her parents.

  7. The Bethany song was perfect for that little scene. I can't wait to see more Cortland/Juliana

  8. The story feels super different but I trust you Shawna.

I thought it was nice in a funny way that Sawyer and Elisa waited up for her like they were her parents and then argued about it.

  9. I have a lot of interest in your writing Shawna but I feel like we are missing so much with the story, it's hard knowing where each character stands or what the plot is anymore.

  10. Hey, Ms. Harrison

I can't believe you gave us two updates. The rehab scene with Sawyer felt so real, description wise. It's great to see Juliana finally being happy. I hope Sawyer convinces her to go to school.

  13. In regards to Someone elses comment I think Sawyer is protecting Juliana so much not just because of her parents but because he wants to maybe even feel the needs to ?

  14. ehhh ! it is so cool that JB is helping you out, how is he doing ?
It would have sucked if Juliana was pregnant.

  15. Hi, it's me again

You know the funny thing I wasn't planning on writing the beach scene I was just going to have them walk on the Boardwalk but it occurred to me that Sofia was from Colorado.

I think every story needs a good beach scene and I loved yours !

  17. Linda-- Go on ahead, they aren't mine anyway.

Maylights-- The metaphor continues !! I'll see how long I can keep it up.

Aym -- I figured Mapquest has more of a connection with giving directions than googlemaps.

Trinity-- I can't wait to see what happens next too ! I have many inspirations I used that I will share.

WildeHorses -- Poetic License ? lol.

RedRose-- I don't know what to say but, in a sense Sawyer knows they will come after him if something happens to her so he is protecting himself too.

Tanya-- It is a nice song, there are a million different versions out there.

HeapsofLace -- Yeah, that wasn't my favorite part. In an earlier draft I had mentioned they actually went out but, just happened to get home before her. I don't want to make Elisa and Sawyer seem that much older. (well, Sawyer maybe)

Natalie R-- You know I have realized this too but, that is what life is like. You never know what anyone's really doing or thinking. Right now I am trying to make this more Juliana's story again. However I realize now that it isn't anymore.

GCS_FTW-- Thank you. This is going to sound odd but, call me Shawna I have had it for a while but nothing to follow it up so, I have been trying to find the place to put it.

Sara -- Yes, there sure is. I looked it up !

BiteMe -- They are really more acquantices, sometimes our friends don't reflect who we are.

Hannah B-- There is, you may find it before I post it.

Carleigh-- Sawyer is one of those straightlaced people, who loves rules I will say that. I can't say I know all his motives. You all make me think so much !

Alexa -- He isn't helping me out I just asked him the title of the song. She was never going to be pregnant, that would take on a whole new leve.

Linda_leigh-- Just like they need a good argument scene !

SinfulNight -- SHe has just never had it. Although she wasn't too fond of the shrimp cocktail in an earlier chapter.
