Hands off Mr. Dashner !
So, I recently saw the trailer for The Maze Runner and imagine my shock when I realize 3 of my characater inspirations are in it !
I've mentioned Kaya Scodelario who is my Corinne inspy. Like her nose is perfect for how I imagine Corrinne. I just imagine her with more chin-length hair.
And he also has Dylan O'Brien who I've decided looks how I imagine Rhett from UL. I was saving this inspiration for if I ever resurrected some more UL, but oh well.
And then one other actor who is an inspy for another character for a thing I'm not ready to talk about. Like pretend I didn't even write that because I'm not sure what I want to say about it yet.
Vice Update
I'm at a point where I am editing the same 8,000 words over and over again. I'm trying to stop laying down backstory and all that and just getting to the action faster than I usually do. I'm still very excited about this even though it's going slowly. I think I will do a sentence of it for next post.
Chapter 7
I don't have much to say about that chapter. The scene between Jonah and Ethan was like the second scene that came to mind when writing HMLIS---the first was Jonah, Ethan and Aris having lunch together. I realize I've never really written about the older brother/younger brother relationship before (Well Nick and his brother in Ivy Brothers may count) and it's been interesting.
HMLIS Update
So, I just lost Chapter 11 and going through the stages of grief on that...juggling two serials is harder than I imagined. I was so glad to be ahead...*back to the trenches*

Oh, he does. He mentions it in Chapter 7 (which I know I posted ages ago). When Corrinne is looking at an interview of him he says:
Delete“Well, I should tell you now I also said my favorite book was The Hobbit and if you need even more things to laugh at me about; I may have proudly proclaimed wanting to get a tattoo in Elvish,” I admit and she snorts.
I decide not to mention that I do in fact have that tattoo on my shoulder.

As far as I know Jane does not show back up again. She was pretty much introduced to serve this one function...but in my head Ethan is the one who breaks up with her.

DeleteBut also I think Corrinne was reacting to how he didn't have a girlfriend, was polite, talked to his Mom, was dressed nicely...I mean it's stereotypical, but it's where she was coming from.
Didn't this happen before with Ender's Game ? Maybe you should become a casting director.

ReplyDeleteWell, we get the reaction (the next chapter) from his POV. BTW, this scene was one of the reasons I had to work the chapters some. I wanted this scene from Corrinne's POV.
DeleteAlso, I'm on chapter 12ish now and I'm going to ditch the switching POV and just do whoever fits the outline. I think trying to keep it back and forth has kind of backfired on me.
Okay, okay. So I totally think that Abigail was like a NARC who infiltrated a sorority, then the girls found out and they all killed her and are hush hush about it.

ReplyDeleteOh, I know. I know. I was actually afraid to mention Rhett because I new OHG would come up and I definitely have an idea. I just can't get to the writing it down part. Everything is swimming in my head. However, it will be short, so once I write it it would go up in one or two posts.

ReplyDeleteUm, yes actually...I just realize this. Ethan got his when he turned 21 and Jonah would have gotten his at 18 and since they are 3 years apart, they would have gotten it at the same time.

DeleteJune, I love this metaphor. The thing that is really getting me is that in chapter 11 I explained what Aris Morrow's book is about and I can't for the life of me remember what I came up with since I kind of "winged" it and it's not in my outline.
