Vice 2 Title Reveal... and More Flash Fics

ARE YOU READY ?

After coming off HMLIS this title felt a little one-wordy, but I kept coming back to it so...ta da ! However, I still like the idea of shorthanding it as V2.

I really enjoyed the HMLIS world, but coming back to the Vice world always feels right. I've been living in this story for a while and I'm excited to share it. I think a lot of what I liked about writing HMLIS like different POVs, mystery elements and of course family drama (and how) will all come back in Vice 2.

I think I'm usurping LiLe as the giant hype machine....

Vice 2 Updates
So, I now have 53 songs on my playlist, I have no idea when that happened ! I'm still a little apprehensive about how to start posting this story, I think this is something we will have to figure out together.

And I don't mean to hype, but just about every chapter in Vice (after the first few introductory ones) I wonder if I've gone too far...

Novella Time !
So, these two novellas tell the story of the two mothers of the Vice Universe. I didn't do it this way on purpose, it just happened.

The Answer is Yes
This one is a little bit... weird, I'm not even sure how I got the idea, the first words  just kind of came to me. This story is about Alan's mother and I kind of had to be creative with her not calling him by his name because  I'm not sure I even know his name and I like it not being canon...yet. So just to clear it up; she calls him some names, but none of those are his name.

Also I do a minor retcon

Last Regrets (Originally titled We All Fall Down, which explains the link name.)
This story is all the backstory I couldn't put into Vice. It was a lot of fun to work with !

  2. I don't know, something about Henry makes him seem like a creeper, is he a good person ?

    1. He is, he really is. I think it was because in Veritas he is pretty much not a good guy, but in Vice he is decent. Just a bit of a workaholic.

  3. Loving all these flash fics ! The title for Cielle's still kind of stumps me.

    1. So, the title is based on the question in the book title:

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep ?

and she's saying "the answer is yes".

    1. I know it doesn't seem like Ivy and Rayne have kids

    2. Well, in a lot of ways No Regrets 2 is Vice.

  5. The Philip Dick story also sounds like the movie AI, when they are capturing the Andriods, but they look more like machines than people.

    1. I'm sure it's derivative...I guess in some ways AI could be considered cyberpunk...more specifically the second half...in fact if the Vice World looks like anything I'd say it looks like that movie.

  6. So glad V2 has a name ! It's perfect

  7. There always seems to be this fear in Sci-Fi about what it means when machines start to feel. I feel like they should be more afraid of intelligence. To me intelligence=empathy. Once you makes something intelligent it has the capability to feel empathy, I don't think empathy is something that is natural to anyone (thing) until they can learn.

    1. hmmm . . . although for this particular story "Alan" hasn't had a chance to become intelligent yet. He feels these natural emotions. He has something he wasn't programmed to have. It's like if your computer started floating when it was programmed to do that.

    2. These are some great points ! The thing with empathy is that the government needs to know he can blend in, because if he can't they have to destroy him.

Natatlie -- I do like your point too.

    1. Funny, coming off of HMLIS (where there was little cursing) I forgot to put cursing in Last Regrets and couldn't figure out why it didn't sound right.

what does it mean. . . is there a word missing ?

    1. Oh, typo that should read:

And I don't mean to hype, but after just about every chapter in Vice 2 I start to wonder if I've gone too far.

  10. Can I just say it going to be interesting that kids "now a days" will think of
operating systems first when they hear Andrioid.

    1. Huh, I never thought about this ! I guess we will have to distinguish between uppercase Android and lowercase android.

    1. He liked the money and freedom from his parents. He also really liked Sara (as a friend) and wanted to stick with her.

  12. wow. . . Rayne seemed suddenly more sympathetic. I must know more.

  13. That is THE title, it sounds so perfect. I also opt for calling it Vice2 because calling it C might be odd

  14. I think I need to go back and read the chapter but what does the government think happened to the experiment ? Also does Henry know before he proposes ?

    ReplyDelete

    1. The government let her keep Alan and knows she has him. TBH after the first few years they stopped checking up on him and as long as Cielle doesn't get back into the sciences they were done with them.

As for Henry...I was trying to figure this out. I mean, when he proposed he didn't know, but before the wedding he did.

  15. Ivy sounds amazing. It seems like she had to tone it down when she married Rayne.

  16. Is taking the implant out. . .legal ? Without it how do they access information. Does this vary from Veritas ?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No it's not legal...but it's also not supposed to be possible.

Sara is the only one who doesn't have one, that's why she always uses screens. Alan has one, but it's been hacked.

  17. OMG, SV mentioned various POVS in Compulsion, could this mean Sara POV makes a reappearance or a new character ? y/y

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yep, SH you have to clarify Jean likes her has a friend or we will go off in theory LA LA land. (:

  19. When Sara asked to have them taken out in No Regrets does the doctor not do it ?
