Chapter 22

No beating around the bush here. I am just going to present the chapter.

I did want to say I did not name Rhett after the character in Gone With The Wind but, when I realized he had the same name as a well known literary character I decided to play around with it some more.

Also a note on IVBs web serial. I have decided not to post it as I write it. In my bootleg NANOWRIMO I will write it out and give you all an update on the word count and then post it when I am done editing it in December. This will give me time to really just write and get story out which is the philosophy of Nano and then I can go back and share a finished version. So, we will see how long it takes me to get to 20,000 words which is about 5 UL chapters so, we will see.

This chapter had no real playlist to go with the sections so, I made a general one. Dreaming With A Broken Heart is not one of the songs but, I wanted to see if anyone else saw any similarties between that song and the one above it. Just in the first 10 seconds or if it was just me.

Okay now on to the chapter

  1. The man from One Republic writes alot of his songs the same like the first bars of "Halo" and "Aplogize".

I'm glad you have something planned for December

  2. Hey, Shawna I'm a little confused in your last post you said

@MakeMeLALA-- THose were the made-up names. They just sounded very politician-y to me. I will say Rhett's last name came from the fact the Gone With the Winds Rhett was played by Clark Gable in the movie.

then in the previous post you said

Carly @ Shawna -know you like classical literature so is Rhett's name taken from Gone With The Wind ?

@ Carly-- No,it's not but now that I know that it may help me name other characters (not exactly their personalities but their names)

    But it's all good

  3. ^ lol it looks like a twitter post.

What an awesome ending, I'm glad Juliana isn't going crazy but now I'm starting to think the dad killed the mom.

  4. Was Tessa's daughter the one that Juliana saw her parents with when she first came back ?

I felt so bad for Rhett in this chapter, he is kind of trapped.

  5. It was great to learn more about Rhett, I felt there were little times in the first section when his characterization was similar to Cortland's but as the chapter went on he became one of my favorite characters.

  6. I guess the jury is still out on whether Rhett is good or bad. I liked this chapter and the end was a big plot twist to me.

  7. I am loving these dark blue chapters, is the dark blue reminiscent of the TL's uniforms. It was interesting seeing the inside of the TL's

  8. The section with Juliana and her father just felt so real, it was wonderfully written the dialogue was spot on emotional.

  9. I liked the little nod to Sid in this chapter. I think Juliana is wearing Rhett down ! I was always on the fence about Juliana but I am loving her now.

  10. I'm assuming that Tessa is younger than Juliana's parents. . . wonder what her dad is really up to? I love where the story is going I can't wait to read more.

  11. Crowning Moment of Heartwarming :

Juliana and Rhett listening to sports radio, it just seemed really sweet. Normal compared to how things are going for them.

  12. I think we have found semi-proof in this chapter that Rhett might be gay, idk.

I wonder if Juliana told Rhett about the money not being there that he would decide to leave

  13. Well, if Juliana thinks that no one belives she is smart I think her father just proved that he thinks she is. Juliana's dad is A+ in my book.

  14. When Rhett is explaining the mark to Juliana it felt very "Gone With The Wind" - esque. I can't help but to imagine Rhett with a thick accent.

  15. I had a feeling that Rhett was mouthing things because he didn't want Caine to hear.

On the other hand it's like Caine literally has voices in his head.

  16. This chapter was beautifully written but the ideas behind it were my favorite part. It seems like Caine or UL is always depriving Juliana of things like freedom and music and by simply listening to a sports game made her happy or feel alive was nice.

I think Rhett liked that hug to.

  17. First, I am loving the quick updates. I wonder if the number mean anything . . .

  18. @Linda--In retrospect it is a deeper cord, I just though they sounded similar. I was confused for a while. I guess he is like you and I with the similarties.

@MakemeLALA-- The characters that's names were inspired by Rhett's name have not shown up yet (if ever ?) However in the GWTW film the other male protagonist name is Ashley and there is an Ashley Hall so it's kind of like that. Rhett was not intentionally named after The Wind character.

Carliegh-- You guys and your theories. How does Joss Whedon and JJ Abrams do it ?Listening to theories when they know the truth all along.

LilacLove-- No, she wasn't. TBH, I'm not sure who that girl was yet.

Natalie-- That is interesting, how so ? I am sure all the characters can be compared and contrasted in many ways.

    @Maylights-- I suppose so.

@Laura-- It just seemed like a good color. I was going to use black but then I remembered UL's colors were blue. It is a coincidence they wear a lot of dark blue.

@Peachie -- Yes, I think it was a new experience for both father and daughter. They have ignored emotion but it seems wrong to ignore grief.

@Sawlisa-- Her life experiences have had an affect on her.

@ Tina-- yes, she is younger but, then again Juliana's father is 63.

@Kandi-- I love to add normalcy to the hectic plot because that is how life is sometimes.

@Wildhorses-- I think she needs to keep him in the dark on somethings to keep some power. He could also try to take her for ransom if he was angry enough.

  19. “But, that mark is an tribute to his delusion,” Rhett continued “You aren’t his. You are clearly still your own person,”

Love this line, love Rhett !

  20. So, Rhett knew about the crossword puzzle the whole time ? or did he just figure it out ?

  21. Princess-- Mine too ! When I was writing I learned that he is always going to be a father over a UL member.

Trichelle-- He does have an accent ! I considered trying to write it but, I thought that was reaching. He has a working class southern accent, kind of like the people in True Blood.

Sundancer87- That is exactly right ! That's why the pass notes.

Southernsass-- I don't know how he felt about it.

    Aym- I don't know.

  22. hmmm, Drinking Bourbon in Louisiana, ICWUDT

  23. HeapsofLace- That was one of my favorite too, I think it shows how Juliana has grown.

CranberriVodka- He just figured it out in the car, it was the first time he had seen the book. I'm not sure why he told Juliana though.

  24. Lol, I love how Caine has a massive basement with room for TL's and hostages. I get the idea that he doesn't really live in the house though.

  25. I'm confused

    Hey Shawna

So Rhett Clarks name isn't based on CLARK Gable playing RHETT butler ? Because you said that it didn't come from that.

    ReplyDelete

  26. Flora- The basement is actually a finished basement that has an extra room attached to it. The TLs room is not actually that big. I have an alternate story that explains more on this. I am considering whether or not to post it because it seriously contradicts this chapter and I am afraid it will confuse people.

  27. Lala-- His last name *i* based on Clark Gable but, I wrote the last name Clark in after I remembered Rhett was a gone with the wind character.

Rhett's original last name was Kohler in the drafts.

I realized where I got his first name from by a comment in Chapter 20.I didn't write his last name until chapter 21 as a little homage afterwards.
