Character Inspirations

I'm actually ahead of the game in my chapter writing which is RARE you guys. Now, Lauren (my stepdaughter) did tell me you all had some questions and I will get to those with each post, but I had this post picked out as a picspiration post, so, who wants pics? Also, can you see which one was also mentioned by Lile once ?

Sara Grace, 30 (Yes, she has 3)

Alan's Parents

Jean and Minnow's have been mentioned before, but can you guys guess the others ?

What Luce ?... Is that you ?!
So, this is probably the biggest change from Veritas to Vice. I made Luce older and slightly more, um....lucid. In fact, he is the reason I had to re-edit Vice so many times. I had to write him in (cause, he is at the Tempus party in Chapter 1 after all) at the last minute.

I sort of had this thought that I wanted to write about a 14-year-old boy, I have no idea why. After writing Twyla in *that thing* I pondered what a character growing up in this environment would look like on the page. But, I had no place for a new 14-year-old character in the story. Then I realized this character already existed and his name was Luce. I later changed his age to 13, to put more of a gap between him and Minnie.

I also realized Sara had it way, way too easy (in fact, all the characters do...we will get to this) in the OG. She doesn't have anyone challenging her and she doesn't really ever have to parent because her kids just sit there quietly, which I now know is super unrealistic. So, I  decided to make Luce a more active and challenging  role in her life.

I also knew Luce needed to really hate Alan. Because in the original, Sara is kind of mad at Tempus and Alan, but not so mad she doesn't let him join her team. Sara's an adult, she realizes Alan had nothing to do with her husband's death and can process that. Well, Luce isn't there yet, so he  makes Alan's life hell.

But, I needed Luce's anger and pain over his father's death to have a physical manifestation fueling it which is why he loses his leg. Also, I had these thoughts during the Olympics with Oscar Pistorious before he shot his girlfriend.

Luce's picspiration is Asa Butterfield, when he was in Hugo and the same age as Luce. I had him picked out for a year and of course I later find out he would be Ender in Ender's Game, so good for him. Although it's funny because between interviews (which I watch for research, not to ignore writing) for Hugo and Ender's Game his voice sounds drastically different. Although in my head he sounds like his younger self.

Moving On
So, with each chapter will get a bit different.

Playlist:
-1- Emphasis by Sleeping at Last (I think this is in Breaking Dawn)
-2- The Boat (Benjamin Francis Leftwich (Thanks, Spotify radio!)
-3- Toulouse by Nicky Romero
-4- Elements by Lindsey Stirling ( She was on America's Got Talent)

Alan has just agreed to work for his kidnappers, but is he ready to get rid of his first body ? Also, there is going to be a lot of dubstep. Not sure why this hasn't come up before....

  1. "The program had been uncovered a few years ago and was some kind of scandal. One of Tempus’ rivals Eternus Unlimted was testing a program to turn average men into unyielding, obedient and unstoppable soldiers with silver crosses impressed in their foreheads, a symbol for sacrifice

But the project failed horrifically, no one could figure out how to do it without killing the men. But instead of the company admitting what happened they covered it all up and kept going until it was leaked and shut down by the government."

Un,honey you are going to write that story ? Right ?

    2. Well, I'm not sure where else I could go with that story...but, maybe ?

As for the strike-throughs, I thought the whole point was for you to still be able to read them !

  2. I was hoping for more Luce ! This is like a complete re-imagining of the original arcade scene.

    1. I originally (in this serial) wrote him "straight". Like just another person. But, then I realized he needed to have some kind of dialogue quirk or something, to make him stand out or be interesting so he talks in threes.

  8. IIRC in Veritas Alan first gets rid of a body by dousing it with a chemical, I like how in this version he gets a little extra help and can't 100% stomach it.

    1. I think you are right. Alan was just a little too okay with getting rid of a body in the original.

  9. Awww, I wonder if Sara really does want to go outside sometimes. To bad red hair is remeberable.

    1. Hmm, I see what you mean. But, the actual intent of the line is to show Jean trying to give Sara a makeover because he thinks she is pretty and not using her "hotness" to it's full advantage. He is teasing her, but I like your interperation of her wanting to go out.

  15. Oh, Jared Leto shows up again ! Saint's picspiration is spot on from the way the actor is posed to his expression. Is that Jason Stahtam ?

    1. It's actually Paul Bettany (who was in Powder back in the day and Lile discusses him when she is talking about Mr. Fierro's skin tone in a post)

Paul Bettany was also in a movie called Priest (when that photo was taken), where his character has a cross tattoo on his forehead and I....um...must have absorbed that in the back of my head...oops.

    2. Is that Minnie/Luce shipping I hear ?

    3. Um, you guys I never noticed this. I just knew I wanted Alan to be 19, Minnie to be 16 and Luce to be 13, so I worked everyone's ages back from there.

  17. "...really ever have to parent because her kids just sit there quietly" Awesome observation, Shawna. I can see so much more character with how Sara has to battle with the people around her.

  21. Did you put alot of consideration in making Sara is older in this version ? Or is she much more the same.

    1. Well, I needed her to have an older son, so she had to be older. Plus, I liked writing Sara in Mimic when she was in her 50's and I realized she is an even more amazing an interesting character.
