The Life of A Pantser
In The Trenches
Well, okay maybe not so much in the trenches. I got a case of writers block pretty bad and have been editing the same two chapters of Vice and HMLIS for the past few weeks. I need Lile's super powers so I can skip around, but they seem to fail me.However, I figure a good cure for writer's block is to just write something and I've done enough of that lately that I feel like I can go back to posting.
Word Count
In my throws of writer's block I was going to make a post with all my word counts and I found a site that will count the words if I just copy and paste them in, so I don't have to search for Word docs. I started this because I think HMLIS will be short like BH was supposed to be and I wanted to see BH exact length. I will probably do the longer serials later, but for now I did the shorties
.
Blessed Hearts
Words: 35100
Mimic
Words: 20220
Teenage Dream
Words: 900
Oh, by the by
Nobody get excited, I'm juggling so much stuff right now that I'm already behind on....but I did a re-read of OHG and I kind of had this idea for a UL Thanksgiving story that could also function as a Christmas story, so I MAY do a thing. Maybe. Soon. Soon-ish.
HMLIS
I finally have it all plotted out to a point (life of a pantser) so I'm sure I will put some of it up soon. I just don't know if I should do it before or after Vice. We will see. My characters finally have names, which makes this process A LOT easier.
Vice Chapter 7
So, this chapter is where things REALLY get different. From this point on, it's a fairly new kind of story. Now, Chapter 8 (which will be in the next post) is well over 9,000 words so I'm debating between splitting it up or not right. I'm really not sure how it got that long and there really is no logical split, but I'll see. Also, I'm still messing with the fonts, I didn't realize Ch. 6's was so big. Anyway, let's move on:
They think they have their target, Morrissey, cornered in a hotel room but before Sara can take her hit, he jumps out of the window. On Sara's orders Alan goes to get Mr. Morrissey's car he stole earlier that night to follow him.... (I just realized how thriller-novel that sounded)
Chapter 7
-1- London Bridge by Yelawolf feat. Ed Sheerhan
-2- Sand by Karen Whipple
-3- Radioactive by Boyce Avenue (they were bound to come back)
Oh, honey your use of Sand is SO much more appropriate than mine (:
ReplyDeleteI may need to do some word counts. . .
I was being a little too literal there, though. I just needed a song and I thought, may as well.
DeleteHere is the site I use, FYI: http://www.wordcounter.net/
LUCE ! oh, no. Is the Mojave closer to the border than The Valley ?
ReplyDeleteI was seriously having PTSD from Veritas when Minnie died and I thought it was going to happen again . . . and then this happened.
DeleteTo put it simply yes. I forgot I was supposed to make a map about these places just for my own reference. I think I'm going to make a map for next post.
DeleteIs Sprawl just a general term for City ? When Alan said Sprawl I wasn't sure if he was talking about EUS or The LOLA.
ReplyDeleteOn that note are Sprawls just REALLY BIG cities ? Does the Boston Atlantic and LoLa really go from Massachusetts to Gerogia ?
DeleteIn this context Sprawl refers to the LOLA's city since it doesn't have an official name.
DeleteIn the EU their city's are lowercase sprawls (really big cities) but they call them by actual names.
As for the second question
*looks at US map* ...kind of ? I will put this in the map for next post.
Pretty blog pictures ! Someone is going to ask it. . . any hints on the names ? We know Jonah Marrow is one.
ReplyDeleteI did say another name at one point, so I think I'll leave it at that. None of the other names are all that interesting to be honest.
DeleteWoo ! This chapter was such an adrenaline rush. This cliffhangers need to stop though.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, they don't. Actually writing cliffhangers has really helped my writing and pacing because I know about up to where I want to get my chapter.
DeleteIs it fair to saw ExUn and Tempus are rivals ?
ReplyDeleteIs it ?
DeleteThose drones sound so scary. I was not expecting that. . . of course why would the EUS be so violent in their attack ? hmmm . . .
ReplyDeleteOn that note
DeleteThe Eastern State Chief of Arms, Cyril Porter stated a system error caused the nuclear weapons to be put on the drones and there was no threat.”
How scary would it be if it was like a computer error ? I mean someone accidentally clicked the mouse to many times.
Hmmm...
DeleteOMG,guys I have a theory about Vice. So you know how in Mimic what was and was not real played a big part in the story
ReplyDeletewell what if Alan's entire time in the LoLa is like some StimSim or something.
Hmmm...I promise I wrote something in chapter 8 before I read this comment.
DeleteOMG OMG OMG
DeleteWow, I was really not expecting Sara to not kill Morrisey. I was like bracing myself. I guess that means Alan has nothing to do.
ReplyDeleteHmm...good point
DeleteOh, a thing ? A OHG related thing ! I miss reading Rhett's accent.
ReplyDeleteReally ? Because I think I did a little too much with it.
DeleteI don't know what it is but I'm really feeling the way Jean and Sara's relationship works. They seem to be more like partners. Was this intentional ?
ReplyDeleteYes. I want to write their backstory at one point.
DeleteOne of the things I didn't like in Veritas is that they weren't as close as they should have been. Jean was with Sara for a lot, he was there when Sara lost her husband, so they've been through a lot together. He is a good person and would have helped her through that.
Hmm, so if ExUn was shut down how is that they are allowed to have a BioFarm ? Is that like some shady side business.
ReplyDeleteWell, they mostly manage it. In this world biofarms are like blood banks, so they just follow the procedures and can't go off book.
DeleteSH, you mentioned in TDOSH that a character was alot like Sid and like Patrick . Was that character Pascal ?
ReplyDeleteHmm, he's probably dead now. . .
DeleteI had to look back...
DeleteI said that Jean was like Sid in that he is more than what he seems and has a lot of sides.
I was saying Luce was like Patrick because neither of them seem to have a filter.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if Saint could talk . . . I wonder why he chose then to speak.
Hey, so . . . can Sara and Saint doing it be a thing ? I'm just curious, I mean come on.
DeleteSaint only speaks when he has to and he had to speak to them because he needed to tell the where he was.
DeleteAlso, they aren't doing it because Saint was chemically castrated. So...yeah.
“Really ? Now am I, sexy badass or sexy badass adorable sidekick ?,” she asks
ReplyDeleteIs this an ironic echo. A Humorous Ironic Echo #TropeQuen
You got it !
DeleteI honestly just needed to fill space, so Sara could have time to crack the code so I wrote some banter and threw in an ironic echo....see if you can catch what trope Minnie says in the next chapter.
ReplyDeleteWhy doesn't Saint take the hit when he sees Morrisey. Am I on to something ?
Kind of. I don't outright say it (because Alan would never really admit this) but, Sara is the leader of the group, they all listen to her and she is the one who takes the hits. That's why Jean asks permission to do it earlier.
DeleteSo, Saint wouldn't do it without her permission.
I really liked this chapter because we get to see Sara actually working and leading the team. Even if she seems a bit reckless.
ReplyDeleteIs it Externus Unlimited, Eternus Unlimited is used a few time in other chapters.
DeleteYou'd think I would have caught that. It should be Eternus Unlimited...
DeleteOh, noes ! I want to give Sara a hug ):
ReplyDeleteWhen Jean was covering her ears so she wouldn't have to hear the message again I was like *shaking and crying*
Delete):
Delete@SH
ReplyDeleteIf Biofarms are regulated then why does Alan seem so disgusted by them ?
I think they are only supposed to use fetus to get the material
Delete“Well, you’ve only got half the truth. To grow fully viable organs they need more tissue than is safe for people to give. So, they buy it from those willing. Which is why this place exists."
Yes. Alan is disgusted because he never knew the organs in the biofarms came from actual people too. He always though they were just grown from pieces of tissue.
DeleteIt's kind of like seeing where your meat comes from...maybe not the best metaphor ):
