What It's Been Like The Trenches
When You See I'm Writing More Excuses for No Posts
But I've never been this far ahead in a serial and I guess I'm trying to keep that lead. I really do see myself posting more often, so hold me to it.
Vice 2 Update
So, I don't know if I've mentioned this but I've finally flexed my third person muscles in Vice 2. It's kind of weird because I've never written the Vice/Veritas world from anyone's POV except Alan, but that may or may not be changing. Although I did just write half a third person chapter in first person by mistake...so I have no idea what that means.
Also, Vice has NO playlist. I've pretty much been just listening to Coldplay for it...if that tells you anything.
Chapter 5
Matty
Matty is kind of an interesting character in that he didn't exist in the original version of HMLIS. I had kind of outlined Corinne's friends and then I realized Jonah needed a friend too. Originally, it was going to be neighbor he grew up with who went to community college and was kind of Jonah's opposite, but I couldn't figure out when to introduce him.
Around this time I came across Haben Girma, a blind-deaf Harvard Law School Grad and advocate and I really wanted to do something with a successful blind-deaf character. Matty being a savant came about because, well the stories about savants I came across are just amazing. Although a lot of them aren't really famous. I also like Matty's character because it gave some insight into what Jonah's Dad book was about without me having to write passages from it.
Speaking of the book, his Dad's Pulitzer prize winning book, How My Light is Spent is based on Siddhartha Mukherjee's Pulitzer prize winning The Emperor of Maladies, which is about cancer.
So, you're also probably wondering why he is a British...well, it's because he's pretty much based on Ed Sheerhan. In my head, Matty doesn't look like the kind of person who would be a serious pianist. He's kind of scruffy and unkept.
Side note: This is not the first time I will unimaginatively base a character's looks on a real person.
Chapter Six
Jonah has successfully gotten the key for the archives and he's ready to go find answers, but Abigail insists they go find Corinne...who's been AWOL since she broke up with her boyfriend.

Playlist
-1- Maps by Yeah Yeah Yeah
-2- Are We Waiting by Green Day (just the first 2:44 before it switches)
-3- Fix You by Coldplay
“ I don’t know. I mean you’re practically a stranger.” I tell him just to give him a hard time.
ReplyDelete“There might be chocolate involved,” he adds.
“So now I’m taking candy from strangers?,”
“Come on, they’re going to sell out,” he say
- as T-DOLL LiLe would say "Flirty Flirty "
You know I can totally relate to the switching POV thing with DSI. I had so many flashbacks to compensate.
IDK why, but Corrinne and Jonah have a lot of "flirty flirty" moments. In fact, Jonah kind of has them with everyone he talks to. It's kind of fun to write in a flirty talk that doesn't always have spontaneously in real life.
DeleteAw, I think it is cute how Jonah and Abigail finish each other's sentences.
ReplyDeleteYou mean sandwiches ? That's what I was going to say !
Delete*sorry, my daughter, stepdaughter (and their father) is obsessed with Frozen*
Grrr, I was in such suspense waiting for the archive. Although I think they should do it without Abigail too. She could be hiding something.
ReplyDeleteHmmm...next chapter I promise !
DeleteIs all of Vice going to be written in third person ? Does this mean new characters
ReplyDelete
DeleteI guess we did kind of get other POVS of Veritas in Sundays. Maybe Vice!Maxwell will make an appearance again ?
I feel like I'm toeing the LILESH Paradox line a little because like Lile's Bellum, Vice 2 (which I pray gets a name soon) will be multiuple parts. It's going to be a thing guys. A big thing.
DeleteBut also, yes lots of new characters !
To answer the question, there will be a mix of first and third person.
ReplyDelete"Jonah turns the radio up louder and I feel like I’m going deaf too"
Lol, Corrine. But---er-- to soon ?
Corinne makes jokes when she is uncomfortable. Also her mind has no filter.
DeleteThe way Abigail seems to dissappear around Matty makes me think he has something to do with her
ReplyDeletedeath.
Hmm...interesting.
DeleteOr maybe she like interferes with his hearing aids.
ReplyDeleteWhat if Abigail was in the hospital and they like met when he was doing a show ? He could have been playing the song from the film.
DeleteHmmmmm....
DeleteOr maybe she like interferes with his hearing aids.
ReplyDeleteThat cream puff sounds delicious, I NEED to get to Boston.
ReplyDeleteI like how Corrine is kind of pretending to like it. I think most girls would just straight up pretend they liked it.
DeleteCalifornia Blues--Right ? That's what I said when I came across it when looking up things about Boston !
DeleteCarleigh- I don't think this is ever said outright, but Corrinne has a big sweet tooth (this is why she is eating an ice cream sandwhich for dinner in her first chapter) so she had very particular taste.
So . . . anyone else get a thing for Matty/Corrine
ReplyDeleteOooh, I never thought about this.
DeleteSo . . . anyone else get a thing for Matty/Corrine
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't have thought Jonah and his brother have a lot in common but they both seem to have commitment issues. Based on their majors and all.
