Silly me, I forgot the playlist. I added it !
Okay, so I am a bit nervous about this but, I'm going to chapter 20 the IVB web serial. For those of you who are not aware, that was when I had help in writing a chapter of UL with some help.
I have been toying with the idea of making IVB a joint project since I first pitched it. For those of you who remember I did not write all of Slate's excerpt.
For the time being I will be working with a fellow colleauge of mine named Joel Baker on this web serial. In my opinion Mr.Baker has been working to hard at non-writing related things at Cobalt and needs to do some writing and he has agreed. This will also solve a long-term commitment we had to a Cobalt employee (This is for you Julie !)
I have to say I was doing a lot of head desking with this story and felt like I was coming up short. After 'testing' things with Joel I can say that after this chapter I think we have found a way to make the chapters 'fresher'.
We will probably write some things together and some things apart but, it won't be specified in the chapter. Although if you care about that sort of thing, I will be doing a bulk of the writing because I have more time.
I think we have only reached my goals in a better way with Joel working with me.
Linda
What is a topic without talking about my dear friend, Linda. I just want to say I think it is interesting she pointed out similarities in her last blog entry but refused to mention my little 'shout out' to her in the last chapter.
I was used to getting through the worst of it in Times Square in 6 minutes flat so I could ignore the angry honks and near misses. After I had passed him, I glided down the avenue with minimal effort. I passed a tattoo shop and wondered how Emily’s name would look on my shoulder but pushed it out of my head.
Okay, I know it's not exactly canon but, I have always imagined IVB taking place in the first half of the century, I'm not sure why.
Music
As I've mentioned I have been listening to Pandora and found songs for future events and even when I listen to the song it reminds me instantly what I wanted to do. However it is not much help for right now and I almost backed out of putting a song on this chapter when I found one that was pretty decent. I try to find songs that enhance the story and fit the scene but, I think this one fits the chapter if you look at it in different ways.
My Accomplice
Hi, I'm Joel Baker and I hope people wont be to upset Shawna and I have joined forces but, I've always liked the IVB idea since I first heard it because I actually had brain cancer and have known people with some of the other conditions she brings up so, this really affected me on a personal level. I did not write this current chapter but, I can't wait for you guys to see what we can do together.
Chapter 3
Here is chapter 3
Hey, honey I don't see a song but I'll read it anyway ! Thanks for the shout out. I caught it but I wasn't sure . . .
ReplyDeleteHm, I see JB influencing the "puppet" thing becuase it was mentioned in chapter 20 of UL with the "The girl with no strings was suddenly Pinocchio" bit.
ReplyDeleteI think the drama aspect was really turned up in this chapter. So far I'm finding Darcy to be the most appealing.
ReplyDeleteNever would I have expected a story about terminal ilness to be so funny !
ReplyDelete“I just had a crazy thought,” I said,” Maybe it has a—and this is a little mad but a-- washing machine included inside the apartment,”
“Now, that’s crazy tall,” Nick laughed
LOL !
Darcy's parents story is really sweet. Is that kind of like your parents Shawna.
ReplyDeleteWell, the Ninja project was supposed to be all JB, but I think this will make an exciting practice.
ReplyDeleteDarcy is really sweet and Slate is hilarious. I want to join this family !
ReplyDeleteI just went to three walmarts trying to find a Wishy bear ! Did Nick get his when he was born (late 80's ?) when they were popular ?
ReplyDeleteNo need to introduce Joel Baker, Everyone knows who he is by his initials ! I can't wait to see what JB has to offer. You two are so cute together
ReplyDeleteOh, this is so exciting. I love reading your blog you make it all come alive. I'm hoping to learn more about Nick's family situation like why his siblings can't be with him. I'm also finding Elias very interesting . . .
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid if I stare at someone on the train they'll call a task force ! Great chapter it was hilarious. I'm loving the Emily/Slate give and take.
ReplyDeleteIs Danielle Dr. Shapiro ? Or is she a nurse ?
ReplyDeleteI like the timestamps but I don't think they add or give anything from the story. I think the chapter 20 thing got out of hand and can't wait to see how JB handles our comments
ReplyDeleteAs a former New Yorker I like the way you capture the city. Can't wait to see Mr. Baker interneting!
ReplyDeleteIs there ever going to be a chapter from Emily's POV. Do computer Techs (like Elias) really have good insurance ?
ReplyDeleteOMG, Mz. Harrison. This story iz pretty nice. IMO. The guyz in it R really hot, personality wise. ! ! ! (:
ReplyDeleteIs Slate Darcy's mother's nephew ? I'm assuming because Slate isn't Italian.
ReplyDeleteHm, so I guess Bennet's is Italian. I think Darcy's intro had something about Eggplant Parmesan in it.
ReplyDeleteinfamous ‘you get up first’ game.
ReplyDeleteLolz, I still play that game with my parents !
I see Slate bringing "drama" to other's people lives will become a theme in the future. y/y ?
ReplyDelete^ on that note, I see Darcy's ability to help everyone around him, hinders him from helping himself. I liked this chapter much more than the last one. I guess I'm just a Darcy_lover.
ReplyDeleteHm, a song just popped up !
ReplyDeleteI think Fray songs are all perfect for Medical Drama's even written one. Do I sense "How to save a life" coming up ?
ReplyDeleteHm, are cameras allowed in hospitals ? or am I nitpicking.
ReplyDeleteAfter listening to Never say never I think it could refer to Nick and Darcy as well as Slate and Emily. I can't wait to see what happens with the later. I'm addicted after this chapter *buys popcorn popper*

ReplyDeleteLinda-- oops ! I fixed it. It was just tiny.
Carleigh-- Actually the puppet thing was my idea, because that is how Slate sees Elias and Nicholas, as extensions of Darcy.
Natalie-- Honestly, me too !
Darcy_lover-- That is the gem of Darcy and Nick, they are supposed to be able to have fun despite the unfortunate events.
Maci-- Honestly, I imagined Slate and Darcy's parents as brother and sister. Then I realized they would not have the same last name so, I had to "explain" that with Darcy's dad not wanting the kids to have his last name. The plot is actually semi-inspired from an episode of Cheers. I considered deleting it but, it felt so true to the characters (and it's pretty minor) I left it in.
Julie R. -- Joel says he hope he doesn't disappoint you and that this will be a good experience for the true ninja project
HappyApple-- I'm just happy you all think I'm funny.
Wishy-- I suppose he did. In his excerpt he says he got it on his 5th birthday and seeing as he is 21, then yes it was the 80's.
Bluebelle-- Well, we wanted to find the best way to incorporate him without the "JB" "Mr.Cobalt" image so it is about the writing. Also, lots of people may not know Joel.
Ana-- We have a lot written so, all I can say is . . . .
Nygirl-- It's more of a give/ I want nothing to do with you.
Redrose-- No, Danielle is a nurse who is just in this chapter. Dr. Shapiro is a therapist who led their group therapy session until her center went out of business. They may have the same first name.
CranberriVodka-- The timestamps were added at the very end because when the voices change someone was confused when Slate went to Emily's party and when the others were at Bennetts and how they related time wise and that may happen (the time thing) again later. Does that make sense ?
Greta!-- I have no idea why I chose NYC because I know nothing about it ! My geography will be a little off at times
Wildehorses-- I'm not sure. Emily is not really a main character. This is minor but, Elias works at Best Buy (a cooperation) that is why he has such good insurance.
Audrina-- Hot personalities ? That's always good.
Tabbi-- Yep ! You got it.
Kandi-- It is Italian because of Darcy's father but, if you see them eating non-Italian food it's because of Darcy's mothers influence.
Trish-- My parents never 'played' that game. It was the 'you get up' game.
VanillaBear-- Y/N :)
You guys are too sweet. Sorry about the song thing
ReplyDeleteBiteme-- I love writing Darcy. As for your other comment . . . .
Linda-- I know, I just forgot.
Pechie_Keen -- Only if I get really stuck and can't find a song. I will say I will be using one "cliche" song. And it's not the Fray.
Yvette-- I don't know, I would think so with the Discovery Health Channel. But, they aren't in a hospital room they are in a kind of personal waiting room.
MrsDrCullen-- For me it was about Nick holding on to Darcy in the subway.
