Erik and Joel Aren't The Only Ones

Chapter 6

Alright so I know, I know this chapter was short like the others, I am working on it. This was one of the few chapters where there is a lot of subtext, more specifically with Rhett and Ricky (No, not that kind of subtext). In a way I was making a statement about the effects of violence on teens and kids. I'm not making any political argument but, as far as Ricky's character goes he is obsessed with the idea of violence but, he doesn't reallize the violence he sees as fictional. And therefore can't empathize when he sees real violence. That's why he doesn't feel guilty taping it. TLDR : Ricky is an example of someone who is desenstized. That is also why he can't fight, he lives in a fictional mentality and can't deal with a real violent situation.

Also a secondary note, Ricky looks up to Rhett (which is why he tells Rhett when Juliana tries to commit suicide) and that plays in a little bit too.

Chapter 7 . . .

It's funny at this point the sequel is over 20,000 words (excluding chapter 7) even though it does not feel like it.

Anyway this is another short chapter and in order to supplement that I am giving you all a tiny gift . . . A special preview of my next project. Writing my next work is still a big WIP, I am doing something totally different as far as the writing process. It is just a prolouge I've whipped up and I have excluded the title to add to the mystery. Both links are at the bottom with their playlists. Pick whichever one you want first !

I will admit I feel like I have ADD (like two of my lovely co-workers) trying to write both ULII and planing my new project. I jump from each one. Anyway let's see if you all can guess the genre now.

Chapter 7

-1- Down to Earth by Justin Beiber (I was going to use him or Jesse McCartney eventually)
-2- Make Me Better by Ne-Yo
-3-Carol of Bells by George Winston (love writing to piano music !)
-4-Almost Lover by A Fine Frenzy
-5- Closer by Boyce Avenue
-6- Chasing Pavement by Adele (I'd skip the first 45 seconds)

Special Project

Don't look to far in to the song.

  1. Oh, honey you have me stumped. I think someone already suggested Thriller. . .

  2. Caine was giving me the creeps in this chapter for some reason, it looks like they will be institutionalizing Juliana, or so I'm guessing.

  3. Okay, so I'm thinking that this New Project is some sort of urban fantasy maybe sci-fi kind of thing. I don't know.

  4. Come on Shawna not even a little Rsquared or how about Rcubed ? JK

The classical music went great with this chapter, I'm interested to see what is around the corner I was afraid this was the end.

  5. No, Raleigh had better not get in the way of Sawyer and Elisa. I think Sawyer is being a little desperate though. I think people should either propose or not, IMHO

  6. Oh, Shawna just so you know Jill doesn't have ADD she just acts like it.

  7. ^ Hm, I thought she was talking about me . . .

  8. Juliana's parents were messed up, I guess it was good she wasn't at home with them.

As for the New Project at first I thought it was LGBT, but now I'm guessing it's Teen Fiction.

  9. Let's see Alan calls the Beatles the oldies which means it takes place in the 21st century or the 90's. but that Cardigans song was recent so I'm guessing futuristic thriller.

  10. Whew, Capital Punishment ? I guess he did kill people. This could get touchy.

  11. Awe, Rhett and Juliana are so sweet, we need more of that (:

  12. I love how tax evasion is just thrown in thier with Capital Punishment, it's a little funny.

I really like Jennifer & the gang together.

  13. Speaking of that kind of Subtext that is exaclty what I got with Erik and Joel in the title.

  14. I see Raleigh got all Attics Finch on them ! For some reason I'm calling Sawyer dying. . . just throwing it out there.

  15. No, PetiteB - Shawna said she would never do that. . . right ?

As for the Alan Gray project I'm trying to think what kind of guy drinks pomegranate tea, he is very different that any of your other characters.

  16. It was sad seeing Rhett and Juliana part, I think he really wanted her to open up to him.

  17. Linda-- Hmm, I don't think someone did but, if they did they were wrong

    Carleigh-- Hmmm

Tabby-- Those are good guesses but, no. I hate saying no all the time ):

Sundance_girl-- No it's not the end, I was afraid you all would think that

Sawlisa-- I kind of agree with this too. I will blog on this later.

Greta-- Um I was refering to JB and Erik (see the title) but um, good to know.

    Linda-- Oh, of course not!

Darcy_Lover-- You know LGBT would be really interesting to write. I would say you aren't completely wrong.

Ashlyn-- Well, you have the time frames correct.

DearRhett- Capital punishment is given out for murder and crimes against humanity.

Allie-- I think it would get to fluffy.

VanillaBear- Most cult leaders are aressted for tax evasion. I like Jennifer too but, for her she is like the odd one out.

    Thanks for the comments

  18. Okay, so we have an Alan Gray who can drive so he is more than 16, but he seems to be still under his parents house so I'm guessing he is seventeen or eighteen... I'm lost Shawna.

  19. Awww, I love Sawyer's proposal song. The closer song was pretty on key to, if not a little cliched.

  20. Yeah, presents. I see no one has done the obligatory 'can't wait for the next update'

    I didn't really get the Ms.Cameron joke

  21. Looks like Tess just got a crowning moment of awesome, she seems to really care.

  22. Bluebelle-- *blushes* it's not like that. Let's get our heads out the gutters.

PetitB-- Sawyer dying ? That's harsh. I was going to look to Atticus Finch for this but, I decided not to.

HappyApple-- I have to admit, I did revert back to Darcy a littlw when writing this. I had to delete some instances where I reverted back to his style of talking. *misses writing IVB*

    Lover_girl-- They still have time.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think Jennifer is becoming more of a real character, I mean Raleigh was right at the end they are still just people

    ReplyDelete
  24. Well, this Alan Gray project certainly isn't like IVB like I thought it was, It also features a male narrator so that should be new.

    ReplyDelete
  25. There semmed to be a bit of a mystery at the end of UL, I think Juliana might be going to jail.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I was expecting the song "Buy you a drink". So perfect for Raleigh and Jennifer.

  27. Lorrie C-- I have no issue giving out his age but, I think I'll keep it to myself.

Shelly-- I know it was cliched, that's why I tried a different version.

Princess-- It really is more that she has been teasing Raleigh about his lack of experience the whole time and he knows she is hiding something at that moment. Of course he thinks it is something small.

CaliforniaBlues-- Tessa's is a very developed character for me.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yeah, I'm close. Hmmm. . . *looks to tropes*

  29. Redrose-- you know JBs neice was upset with me for making an 'evil' jennifer in chapter 2 and I tried to hint that Jennifer is not evil and I will stand by that. She was never meant to be evil.

Corrie A-- Well, I've worked with male narrators before. It is a bit similar to IVB . . .

    Libro- Hm . . .

Maria-- I did not even think about that ! Good one.
