So, I'm juggling two serials right now that I'm super behind on...but I had time to pick out dresses for my fictional characters to wear to a fictional dance that isn't going to come up again. |  |
Blythe Turner (17)
This is Anna Sophia Robb. So little story, she was originally an Abigail inspiration, but I wanted Abigail to be super sweet looking and I felt like ASR' has the face of a good girl, but something about her expression made it seem like she is the girl who will ruin your life. So, then she became Blythe.
Also, Blythe didn't have a name until the chapter she's introduced in and neither did the owner of the BAL jacket. I was looking through B names for BAL and I decided on Blythe, but realized I liked it so much I wanted to use it for more than a throwaway character.
Which is why I introduce two characters with B names in the same chapter.
Chapter 14
Would you believe this entire serial has been leading up to Abigail and Blythe's story ? I didn't have it written, but from word one I knew it would involve a bridge suicide and about two chapters in I knew Abigail was a had been in love with another girl.It's why she is so dismissive whenever Corinne mentions her crush on Jonah.

DeleteAlthough I was going to write a scene where a barista spells Jonahs name on a cup as Jona and he thinks; why would anyone spell it that way ?
I love the name Blythe it's so classic.

DeleteI did a quick re-read of chapter 14 and I feel like the story could have almost started with Abigail at the bridge. Did you ever think of shifting the focus ?
ReplyDeleteIt could have, but when I started this I intended on exploring the Morrow family more and I needed to have Jonah's POV.
DeleteI also wanted to keep the mystery going longer and at an early point, Abigail figures it out, but doesn't say anything. I needed Corinne and Jonah to keep the mystery going.
Between Jonah's family drama, Jonah's music, Ethan's commitment problems, The Morrow's marriage, Corrine/Phillip and Abigail and Blythe plus Sev's storyline throw in there I'm surprised this isn't more than one serial. I see 100 chapters ! we can do it.

ReplyDeleteAhh, SH both these chapters are super short. I need some big chunky UL-sized chapters.
I am living for a 10,000 chapter post to happen again, but I really don't see that happening soon. In fact, the longest chapter in Vice2 so far is about 3,000.

DeleteI don't know how I feel about Corrine being made at her friends, it's not their lives aren't as tragic as hers. Especially when they try to include and help her.

ReplyDeleteI have no idea, I don't think they are American and they appear to have been around for a while. They don't do all covers, but they will be making a few re-appearances.
DeleteDid you have to do a lot of poetry research to find the right poems to fit the tone of the story. . . or did the poems come first.
ReplyDeleteI had to do so much research, I found a couple of poets I liked and then kind of worked off their contemporaries. Poets.org was a lifesaver.

She is still having an out of body experience, which is pretty ethereal in that only some people can see her "spirit".

DeleteI think it's intersting how this story is also commenting on mental illness and how society treats it like something to be hidden away. Like with Blyth and Phillip.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that connection was made. I had this written a few months ago and when Robin Williams died I was feeling a little uneasy...I was the same way about Philip and taking pills because of the other high profile people who've recently died from overdoses.
