Let's Take Another Look Back
This week I want to look at two posts that were around this time in 2009.
Writing Process and Another One of Those Times
In both of these I don't do updates, but I do something I'm ashamed to say I still do; talk about 'teh writing struggle'. I think we all know how that goes, but I also talk a little bit about my process.
I think my process is mostly the same; I make chicken scratch, rewrite into sentences, edit and then re-edit and depending on if I am ready for the next chapter, edit some more. Then I "score" the chapter if I don't already have songs planned out. And I typically have to write it in order.
Although recently I've started to write entire chapters with no outlines or drafted ideas.This is happening a lot with Vice 2, because I don't have an official outline so I just kind of start writing sometimes. And it's not because Vice 2 is basically me re-writing Hidden, the stories are SO different, I promise.
I also post an alternate scene from UL, which reminded me I have the first chapter of HMLIS in third person (that wasn't working) and I also have an alternate scene from Vice I may share.
Other bits
- The Another One of Those Times may be one of the first earlier mentions of the LL-SH Paradox line. In fact, in the next post Lile says she is going to change something to get rid of the similarity.
- I mention wanting to see the Bruce Willis movie Surrogates, about people who can control artificial people (or something ???). I'm not sure why I mention that...maybe it's the beginnings of Vice ?

Vice 2 Update
That awkward moment when you have to go back to re-read your old serials to make sure your voice sounds right. It's coming along is all I can say.

These chapters were really exploring the fall out of them finding out the truth and how Corinne and Jonah each cope with it.

Oh, Scoring music sounds so fancy ! I don't even include that in my process. Generally the song comes first. I can't believe this is over. I truly ant to hear more about Corrine and Jonah. I just loved Corrine's voice to pieces and I'd like to see her and Jonah clash some more.

ReplyDeleteNo, Phillip and Corinne aren't getting back together. They were high school sweethearts, but they couldn't make it work together.

As for Ethan, he'll probably keep doing what he's been doing. He wants to be in the Olympics and he's going to keep working on that. I'm not sure I could write a neat ending for him.
Okay Miss Olivia J, when I heard you were working with JB I was jealous but now that i know you are helping SHV do cliffhanger like things we might be enemies.

ReplyDeleteI used Wonderwall because it's a classic "coffee shop" song that's always in the background. I completely forgot this was in IVB !
DeleteI eased back on the Morrow family drama because ever since Sundays I'm cautious of breaking the cuties.
I can't help but to laugh at all the crazy theories I made. This rivals UL for the feel good ending.

DeleteDoes Jonah still fear when his father says everyone should "do something great". Do you have any idea on what his future might hold ?
ReplyDeleteWell, Jonah singing for Corinne shows that he's going to go back to studying music and see where that leads. I'm not sure what his future holds, but honestly he's a first semester freshman in college...he has a whole life of choices in front of him

ReplyDeleteNo. I created that Open Mic just so Jonah could serenade Corinne so I have no idea what anyone else would have done at the open mic night.

ReplyDeleteIt's honestly how I felt. I think they are both looking for things other than SOs that putting them together felt awkward. Plus, I like the idea of a guy and girl being platonic friends.

Yeah, in the chapter where Phillip is working at the library Jonah remembers they worked at the camp together and Phillip had to leave because he was stealing pills...

SHV is a good ol' fashion pantser. Do you complete 3 or 4 chapters ahead of time, or do you post them as they are complete
ReplyDeleteWell, for HMLIS I tried to be 3-4 chapter ahead of my postings, but that is new and only because I had a headstart of 4 chapters prior to posting.
DeleteFor Vice 2 I'm about 4 chapters ahead and I'd like to up that to 8 before I start posting. Just in case I need to retroactively change things.

Mr. Morrow's heart to heart with his son did paired so well with that song. I don't think we've ever seen so much parental love in an SHV work.

DeleteOkay, truth time. At the very early stages I thought this could be a jumping off point for a series where they use their "power" to see dead people to help solve murders in different serials. I abandoned it because I couldn't figure out another mystery. Also it was kind of cheesy
