I have to say I am surprised at the amount of difference working with someone can cause, it defianaltey puts a dent in the workload but, writing this has been so refreshing it's not even like work for me. I am very lucky to have this job.
Okay, so there are 3 updates today. There could have been 4 but, I thought that was a bit much even though not posting it messes with the "flow" so to speak. Well, then again not really, it just means one person doesn't have a chapter for this update. I have to say one of the hardest parts about making a web serial is the music but, having music stockpiled in a mystery playlist (one that is not connected to my account for all you spies !) makes it easier to pick and choose songs.
I promise I will do some blogging later, I just need some topics because I know I could go on forever about the process of writing this. Just about everything has a purpose and a reason or is developing one.
Joel's Note : I think Shawna and I should see how long we can keep coming up with suggestive blog titles.
To start you off here is chapter 7
Playlist (It's not exactly literal except maybe the last song)
I just realized if I keep doing one song a chapter the numbers on the playlist and the chapter numbers will match up.
Chapter 7 -- Breathe by Ana Nalick (I feel like I stole this song from Linda, but I'm not sure)
Chapter 8 -- Unwell by Matchbox 20
Chapter 9 -- I Miss You by Blink 182
I know the song, I don't think I used it. I'm getting jealous of all these great songs you have !
ReplyDeletePs. Did you get my e-mail ?
Are the chapters intended to be short vignettes for each POV ?
ReplyDeleteGreat chapters, It didn't occur to me that Slate didn't tell The Bennett's about having HIV.
ReplyDeletePersonally I was tempted to see Elias' POV, Now I'm assuming there is some big revelation coming up . . .
ReplyDeleteI'm so waiting for someone to crack the shell that Slate has put up, I know he is the "bad boy" but I don't see the appeal.
ReplyDeleteI'm finding Nick's siblings to be a little selfish, I think it seems like as the youngest he shouldn't have so much responsibility, of course in strong catholic families the father is usually the main patriarch.
ReplyDeleteDo you really find the music hard, I think that would be the best part. can't wait for the next (multiple) update.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to hear you ramble about the writing process ! like do you write everything on one page or are they separate ?
ReplyDeleteI notice that each chapter had the mention of a waiting room, was that the theme or am I stretching ?
ReplyDeleteIt's funny no one mentioned the concept of Nick being Catholic and homosexual, I bet that is why he and his brother do not get along
ReplyDeleteWhere are all the Slate haters coming from ? He has the most potential for change.
ReplyDeleteChange or not Emily is waaaaay to good for Slate, she should date Darcy. LOL
ReplyDeletePerfect song for chapter 8 (obviously), does JB help with the songs any ?
ReplyDeleteI didn't really see anything happen in this chapter, except with Nicholas. It does raise the question if his mother knows that he is gay.
ReplyDeleteEven though we knew the IV bro's backstory beforhand, I always had a feeling the name was Darcy's idea.
ReplyDeleteHey Shawna I'm trying to look up where Nicholas and Elias's last names are mentioned
ReplyDeleteSlate has some of the funniest lines, it was hard seeing a positive character like Darcy in so much pain ):
ReplyDeleteI keep looking for foreshadowing or something in each little chapter, maybe I should squint harder.
ReplyDeleteAs a little experiment you can sort of read just Slate's section and follow a storyline. . . kind of.
ReplyDeleteI like my job but you seem to really love yours and we are all glad for that.
ReplyDeleteLOL, JB.

ReplyDeleteLinda-- I did, I will be on AIM if someone wants to go over the details with me.
Maylights-- They are honestly as long as they need to be to set up for certain things. Which makes some of them shorter than others.
HappyApple--Yes, he mentions it to Emily when they are in the hospital.
Vanessa R.--His was the one that was left out in this update but there is one though.
Tabbi-- I don't see the appeal either for Emily, TBH. I really can't say anything else to the comment.
Natalie-- I suppose it is selfish but, it is all about sacrifice too. There will be more on this later.
Kandi-- I guess I look to hard for the perfect song, like it even exists. But, when you find a good song, it is always fun !
Wildehorses-- Every chapter is written on a seperate page but, they are all 'grouped' to do something specific with a few exceptions.I may get into this later.
Joy87-- I guess it is a motif I've been using and I didn't even notice it ! You aren't stretching to much though.
Darcy_lover -- You are right no one has mentioned it. It is no secret that that is the reason he and his brother don't get along but, I don't want everything being all about him being homosexual and catholic.
Biteme-- You really aren't supposed to like Slate, not even in a charming way so I understand the hate.
Swalisa-- I had this thought too when I was writing Slate's excerpt.
Vanillabear-- No, not this time around, I handle that. I was glad that song wasn't to literal.
RedRose-- All I can say is some of the chapters are longer and some are shorter for a reason.
Caprice-- Yes, so did I, even before I wrote that.
CranberriVodka-- I was originally not going to give them last names but, then I realized I had to. Nicholas's last name is Minnoe (like Minnow), I wanted him to have kind of a funny or unique last name I have no idea why. Elias's last name is stil TBA . . . .
Christiana-- Together Slate and Darcy do come up with some one-liners. That makes them fun to write.
Lili-Pad-- Maybe there are more chekovs guns . . .
Peacephul-- I suppose you could, actually. I mean really you could attempt to do this with any character.
Princess-- I really do, even though writing this isn't actually my job it's all good !
Bluebelle- I'll have to tell Joel someone though he was funny.
Thanks you guys ! I have so much love for you, I really do and I appreciate the honesty.
